Ghost in the Machine is the fourth studio album by English rock band The Police. The album was originally released on LP and cassettes on 2 October 1981 by A&M. The songs were recorded between January and September 1981 during sessions that took place at AIR Studios in Montserrat and Le Studio in Quebec, assisted by record producer Hugh Padgham. The album reached No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart and No. 2 on the US Billboard 200. The band released three successful singles from the album: Every Little. The Police. EMI Music Publishing и другие. A phenomenal success by anyones standards, the record set Sting, Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland on course for its follow-up, Ghost In The Machine, and the global superstardom theyd attain when their fifth LP, Synchronicity, was released in June 1983. Their jazz influence had become more prominent, as evidenced by the appearance of saxophones on several tracks. The production has more of a contemporary '80s sound to it courtesy of Hugh Padgham, who took over for Nigel Gray, and Sting proved once and for all to be a master of the pop songwriting format. Although many Police fans consider 1983's 'Synchronicity' album to be the band's finest album, a significant number of others believe that it was 1981's 'Ghost In The Machine' that is the more satisfying. After three albums recorded in either the egg-box covered walls of Surrey Sound Studios or amidst the persistent rain of Holland, the band transported themselves to the idyllic surroundings of the Caribbean, and to Air Studios on the island of Montserrat. The album saw a number of key changes from their past - they dropped the silly album titles and seemed t. Ghost In The Machine was The Polices fourth studio album, released in late 1981 to international success. It was a top 5 album in ten countries and spawned three silver-certified singles in the UK, two of which also reached the top 20 in the US. The previous year's Zenyatta Mondatta made them stars, with the album reaching No. 5 their first Top 10 and two of its singles De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da and Don't Stand So Close to Me also cracking the Top 10 for the first time. They even started over, in a sense, by recording in new studios with a new producer. With the leap in sales and chart position came more control, and the band took the opportunity to delve deeper into sub
