The pair werent fans of the song, and thought its syncopated shuffle beat wouldnt fit in with the electronically straight-timed drums of the rest of the album. Roland Orzabal said: The shuffle beat was alien to our normal way of doing things. Tears For Fears spent most of 1985 touring in support of the Songs From The Big Chair album. It took so much out of them physically and emotionally, they didn't go back to work until a few years later, finally emerging in 1989 with their album The Seeds Of Love. Curt Smith explained in Outlook magazine: We soon realized that touring isn't much fun with a bunch of drum machines and sequencers. I know this because it was the month that Everybody Wants to Rule the World came out, and it was the same month that my oldest brother moved away 12 years my senior.
