Directed by Geoffrey O'Connor Order Physical and visual artist Sarah Mary Chadwick is not a new face to Melbourne's music community. After moving to Australia from her native New Zealand to pursue a career in music, Sarah spent a decade fronting the grunge band Batrider. This is all front and center on Chadwicks newest Sugar Still Melts In The Rain. From the album's moody though by SMC standards, uplifting first track 'Flow Over Me' to its larger moments where Sarah cries 'raise your glass to my health and to everyone going away' in the title track, the album is undeniably committed to the uncomplicated, relying solely on piano, keys, bass and percussion. There is a sameyness to the songwriting that puts still more emphasis on the lyrics, but they and Chadwick's authenticity carry the weight, in more ways than one. Before focusing on solo material, Chadwick led the post-grunge band Batrider formed in Wellington for 10 years in the 2000s. After moving to Australia, Chadwick's songwriting drew inspiration from weird old New Zealand musicians like Peter Jefferies, Chris Knox, and Australias Pip Proud and the way they tinker away and work for decades for little to no commercial success. Her solo debut, Eating for Two, was released in 2012. In 2016, she released Roses Always Die, and then Sugar Still Melts in Rain in 2018.
